Congolese Refugee Camp

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

In February 2023, Loving Compassion Africa (LCA) expanded our reach into a Congolese Refugee Camp in a rural area out side Nairobi. The Congolese, as they are not citizens of Kenya, are not able to attend public school, are not being hired by most businesses and struggle to survive. Many of the residents in the camp are widows or parents that are trying to raise their own children along with all their nieces and nephews. The instability in the DRC has seen many rebel groups emerge and the routine execution of many village men and older boys along with torching of their villages. This has caused many of the citizens to flee the country. Though living in Kenya is safer, it also creates added hardships for families.

LCA was able to run a feeding program and identified many children, families, handicapped persons, widows and elderly grandmothers that were is desperate need of help. We have been able to step in and help a few. LCA with the help of TRESGAD and Sister Lucy has helped about 20 children return to school, provided some emergency food and medicines and have compiled a long list of additional persons in desperate need. Please help us to expand our reach and bring hope to more deserving people.

Meet Fidel

Fidel tries to support his family of 10 (soon to be 11) children. He has 4 of his own plus takes care of all his nieces and nephews. Fidel's siblings were murdered in the Congo by rebels. Fidel is unable to find work and so buys cell phone covers to sell in neighboring hard to reach villages. He will often walk for days, foraging for food and sleeping on the ground, in order to return with meagre amounts of money for his family. He is very hardworking but is unable to pay school fees for his children. Please help Fidel and sponsor one or more of his children to go to school.

The need is great, please consider helping sponsor a refugee child's education or monthly food for a family.
