Almost half the population of Kenya lives on less than $3/day  (World Bank statistics).  Over 20 million children are suffering from acute malnutrition in the Horn of Africa, which translates into 1/3 of all the Children in Kenya.  Families that are facing malnutrition and starvation view education as a luxury they cannot afford.  Education in Kenya is not free.  The cost of school fees, uniforms, books, and supplies make it almost impossible for many for many vulnerable.  ​​​
